One of our lectures specialises in play, and her passion for making accessible structures designed for play inspired me immensely.
I took inspiration from a childhood memory, of sailing with my family and hearing the repetitive clanging of the sails. This memory gives me peace and solitude of a simpler time.
I decided to make a wind chime out of my ergonomic play pebbles to replicate the rhythmic collision of sound. I wanted to portray a sense of balance within the structure so I carved out half of the main slab to create an asymmetric form in which the pebbles could suspend from.

Post residency these wind chimes have made their home on the pear tree in the garden of my family home.

The 'Ergonomic Play Pebbles' are hand carved out of reclaimed oak wood scraps. They were made during the 9 day residency at The Cut Arts Centre in Halesworth, UK (July 2024)
